Skilling and Reskilling Rural Women and Youth in Ghana

Framework: Ghana Skills for Agriculture Program (GSAP)

Youngdevs actively designed and led the implementation of a 3-year pilot programme to reskill rural women and youth in Quality of Instructions, Value Chain Specific Program/Curriculum Development and Employability, Job Readiness, Transition and Resilience in Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET).

Under component 2 of Ghana Skills for Agriculture Program, Youngdevs delivered quality, market relevant and gender- responsive skills training to rural women and young people to usher them into jobs or self-employment. Youngdevs contributed to the achievement of components 2 by doing assessments to identify exciting entry points in the MSME sector and commercial farms for unemployed youth participation.

Status Updates:

  1. Youngdevs trained and certified 1,700 rural women and youth participants in market-driven digital extension technologies to drive private extension service delivery to serve millions of smallholder farmers in Ghana.

  2. Youngdevs also trained and certified 13 rural women and youth as a network of Crop Spray Service providers to set up MSME ventures across farming communities.

  3. Youngdevs additionally delivered certified training to 41 women as Farm Mechanization service delivery to set up rural Farm Machinery Service Centres (Rural Agriculture Engineering Technician Training) as well as supported facilitation linkages between ATVET institutions and their industry membership for the establishment of workplace experience learning for all trainees.
